Getting Ready for Midterm

This week has been all about getting ready for our midterm.
Time has flown by so fast, we can’t believe we’re already halfway through the term. When we first started, Jargon was just a concept and a few messy sketches. Now it’s starting to feel more and more like a real app, with screens, flows, and features that actually connect together. It’s a bit surreal to look back and realize how much has changed in just a few weeks.

The day before our presentation, the whole team met at BCIT Downtown to rehearse and divide up the coding tasks. We spread out our laptops, Figma files, and notes across the tables and started walking through the flow of the demo step by step. It was a little chaotic, someone fixing a layout, someone else updating copy, another person trying to make sure the prototype didn’t break, but it was the good kind of chaos, the kind that means things are moving forward.

As we practiced our parts, we started to fine-tune how we wanted to tell Jargon’s story: why we’re building it, who it’s for, and what problem it really solves. We adjusted transitions between speakers, cleaned up some slides, and made sure each feature we showed had a clear purpose. Even though we were tired, there was a shared sense of excitement seeing everyone’s contributions finally come together into one cohesive presentation.

We also had an update meeting with our advisor, Emily. She’s been supporting us since the very beginning and always gives us thoughtful, practical feedback—never just “this is good” or “this is bad,” but real, actionable suggestions we can use. During this check-in, we walked her through our latest designs and progress. It feels really encouraging to see that she’s starting to genuinely like where our app is going and can see the potential in what we’re building.

By the end of the day, we were exhausted but proud. The midterm was still ahead of us, but for the first time, it felt like we were stepping into it with a clearer vision, a stronger app, and a team that’s learning how to build and adapt together.
